Toshiba Thrive 10.1-Inch Review
Toshiba Thrive tries to carve its niche within already crowded tablet market. Toshiba has turned up on the tablet scene quite late, probably to learn from mistakes of others before stepping in. Toshiba Thrive is a 10.1 inch tablet that runs on Android Honeycomb 3.1 operating system.
The tablet comes packed with full sized USB and HDMI ports, and it also offers full SD card slot. With USB slot, one can easily attach external keyboard to make typing easy and puts it in competition with Asus Transformer with that feature. The downside of adding the full sized ports was the increased girth and bulkiness of the device, which becomes its biggest negative feature as well.

List Price: $ 379.99
Price: $ 348.56
The performance of the tablet is at par with best performing android tablets out in the market like Samsung galaxy tab 10.1. The tablet comes with the Nvidia’s Tegra 2 SoC, which packs a dual-core 1GHz chip. The tablet lives up to the expectation in terms of the performance and is a great bargain for the price. The tablet comes with a 10.1 inch HD display that looks great even in sunlight.
Toshiba Thrive starts from the list price of $399 (for 16GB version) and it undercuts most its competition with that aggressive pricing. Toshiba is also a complete value-for-money proposition, when you look at the whole package closely. The tablet comes loaded with many useful paid apps like Quickoffice, Kaspersky Tablet Security etc, making the savings with this tablet even more. The 8-GB and 32-GB versions are available at a list price of $379 and $479 respectively.
Pros:The tablet comes with a host of full sized ports like USB, HDMI and SDXC slot.Value for money proposition as its factory loaded with some of the useful paid apps.Performance is quite good and in-line with top performing android tablets.Attractive price tag
Cons:The tablet is quite bulky and its hefty weight is not appealing at all.Battery life is not very impressive.Back plate removal is difficult
The Toshiba Thrive is makes a unique place in tablet market as it’s the only credible option with full sized USD, HDMI ports and SD card slot. Though, this makes the tablet bulky and heavy, which kind of works against the portability aspect of the tablet. However, for someone who is looking for these features and a complete value for money package, without compromising on the performance, then Toshiba Thrive is an attractive option.

For a college undergraduate who is short on money, a budget laptop is a good buy. Some of the best budget laptops are available in market on reasonable prices those have discount for students but also it is important that the can run new applications.

I have a Toshiba Thrive. There is no way I would use this for college. I mean you are going to be writing papers and stuff. You need a real keyboard. And you need a real word processor program not just a slimmed down app. Also the Thrive doesn’t come with any type of word processor app install. They have apps in the Toshiba Thrive app store or the Android market place and they cost money. Get yourself a nice i3 laptop for the same price. You wont regret it.
Like I said I have one. The Thrive is nice! Just not for college.
